Open Source ASP.NET applications

April 1, 2008 22:56 by MrWize

I have been looking for some applications over att CodePlex, the open-source community for ASP.NET applications, but can only find applications that REQUIRE Visual Studio. OK, the ASP.NET application is "open source" but to compile/tweak the ASP.NET application You need to invest around $1.000 (the cost for Visual Studio in Sweden). Or do as I have done with BlogEngine.NET. Rearranged codefiles to support further development in Visual Web Developer 2005 EE.

My interest in open-source projects is that it's free to use, you can tweak the application to suite Your needs, you gain time when starting up new projects and save initial investments.

Can anyone tell me why the MS-developer-sphere is lacking the spirit You can find in for example in the PHP community. A whole lot of good and professional applications.

Just me, loosing pressure ... :o

Have you not heard of the Open Source Mono project. This is the open source port of .Net to Linux. The IDE tools also run on Windows

I have heard about the Mono-project, also have a linux-server at home running mono.

My next dedicated server will be a linux-server, with Mono installed.
